Hey Minnesota!
October 1, 2008
I hope everyone is doing well, I know I am! I just thought I would take a second to fill everyone in on my travels thus far. Over the last few weeks I have been traveling as a part of the Supreme Team along with Supreme Guardian Marilyn, Associate Supreme Guardian Bob, and Miss International Megan. We have made official visits to nine different jurisdictions including Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, Washington, British Columbia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
In Michigan we attended a Leadership Camp that was pirate themed where we took classes in Yoga Laughter, the Five Love Languages, and Robert’s Rules of Order. We participated in a treasure hunt, night walk, and a Pirate’s of the Caribbean film showing. The girls also had a chance to climb a rock wall, make their way through a ropes course, and test their knowledge at Jobie Jeopardy.
In Wisconsin, we stayed in Milwaukee, met some of the girls and toured some of the local attractions. We went to the local zoo where we rode camels, fed the goats, and watched a seal show. The Sprecher Brewery, known for its amazing root beer, was next on the list, followed by a small reception held at a local lodge. The skit winners from Jamboree performed in piano, dance, and a skit for us. We congratulated their delightful performances over punch and cake while getting to know the girls a little better.
Next on the list was Minnesota’s Disney Princess Camp, and most of you know all about that! The entire Supreme Family really enjoyed camp, but could not figure out how we have the energy to attend a four day camp. Some highlights from the weekend included the Water Weenie, Skit Night, wishing on the Water, and the Dunk Tank. Thank you to all who helped contribute to my travel fund by participating in the dunk tank activities.
Florida was our last destination on our first go-round. We got to meet some of the girls at a combined round table meeting between two bethels in Florida, and found the girls were very sweet and truly loved Jobies. The second day we were in Florida, we drove from St. Petersburg to Orlando for a two day trip to Disney world, where we visited Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. It was hot and humid as the tropical storms approached, but we all still enjoyed every moment of our first trip to Disney World!
After a two week break following the first trip, the four of us were reunited in Seattle, Washington for International Day. International Day is a celebration held every year to honor the bonds of friendship across borders. The location alternates between Washington and British Columbia each year, and the girls have a spaghetti dinner and sleepover following the ceremony. This year we played a dice game called Bunco, learned about the common activities the bethel’s had, and enjoyed ice cream and movies.
The next trip was to Oregon; however I did not attend this official visit because of the Minnesota Reception. So I will tell you instead of the Minnesota Reception. The Reception was held in Duluth, complete with a scavenger hunt through the park, dance, and ice cream social. For dinner Bethels 32 and 48 went to Sammy’s Pizza and discussed how beautiful the ceremony was that Sue and her daughters came up with.
Our next trip combined Oklahoma and Kansas’s Grand Bethel. In Oklahoma, we visited the Gilcrease Museum of Western History, the local mall, and a restaurant found only in Oklahoma, Pop’s. We also went to a small reception and game night with three different bethels where we played Life, Jenga, and Mancalla with the girls. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Guthrie Scottish Rite Temple, the original capital of Oklahoma.
After driving across the border into Kansas, we ate a pleasant dinner with Grand Guardian Donna and settled into our hotel rooms. The Grand Bethel meeting was the next morning, followed by a trip to the zoo and a night of swimming and having fun with the other girls. We attended Chapel on Sunday morning at the Eastern Star Chapel at the Masonic Nursing Home. The girls performed the living cross before we said good bye and left for home.
In the upcoming weeks I will be traveling to Manitoba, Nebraska, and Brazil. Although I will miss JDYou because I will be in Brazil, I will make it back in time to see everyone at Fall Inn! I will also have pins and charms for sale at Fall Inn for $5 each, so remember to find me at Fall Inn to hear the latest and greatest travel stories, see pictures, and purchase your pins and charms! There is a copy of my travel schedule along with biographies of the Supreme Team and travel journals on the International website at www.iojd.org. I hope to see you all soon!
Jobie Love,
Jenna L.
